Shipping Management is where an order becomes a parcel with a carrier, a label and a tracking number — and, eventually, an invoice line you have to check. It spans the whole commercial relationship with carriers, not just the act of booking one.

The problem it solves

A merchant with one carrier has a shipping process. A merchant with eight has a decision to make on every order, several hundred times a day: which carrier, at what price, with what chance of arriving on time. Made by hand that decision is guesswork; made badly it is the largest controllable cost in the operation. Shipping Management holds the carrier accounts and contracts, decides between them by rule, creates and tracks the shipments, and then checks what the carriers actually billed against what they should have.

The four functions are a sequence, not a menu. Coverage and SLA set in the first determine what automation can choose in the second; contract prices set in the first are what reconciliation checks against in the fourth.
