# Localization: languages, currency and time zones

> Set the interface language for your team, your account's country, currency, time zone and date format, and the language your customers receive messages in.

OTO operates in markets that read in two directions and write in three languages. Localization is not a translation layer bolted on top — it runs from the dashboard a picker uses to the SMS a customer receives.

## Two different questions

“What language is this in” has two answers, and confusing them is the usual source of trouble.

| Audience | Who decides |
| - | - |
| **Your team**, working in the dashboard and the apps | Each person, for themselves. A warehouse manager in Riyadh and an operations lead in Istanbul can work in different languages on the same account. |
| **Your customers**, reading a message or a tracking page | You, per message, when you author the content. See [Customer Notification](https://docs.tryoto.com/modules/customer-notification/overview.md). |

> [!TIP]
>
> **Your interface language is not your customer's**
>
> Switching your own dashboard to English does not switch what the customer receives, and it should not. A team can work in whatever language suits it while every customer still reads their own.
>
> The practical consequence: if a customer reports a message reading oddly, changing your own settings will not reproduce it. Look at the content itself, in [Customer Notification](https://docs.tryoto.com/modules/customer-notification/overview.md), on the language tab they actually received.

## Interface languages

The dashboard and the mobile apps are available in **English**, **Arabic** and **Turkish**. Arabic runs the interface **right-to-left** throughout — navigation, tables, forms and the apps — rather than translating the words and leaving the layout facing the other way.

> [!NOTE]
>
> **Right-to-left is a layout problem, not a translation problem**
>
> Translated strings in a left-to-right layout is the common half-measure, and Arabic-speaking teams recognize it immediately: the text is right but everything is in the wrong place.
>
> Full RTL means the whole interface mirrors. It is the difference between software that has been translated and software that was built for the market.

## Country, currency, timezone and date format

Each person sets their own regional preferences at **Settings → My Profile → Country and Region**.

| Field | Behavior |
| - | - |
| **Country** | Detected and fixed — it anchors the rest, so it is not edited by hand. |
| **Currency** | Follows from the country and is not separately editable. An account in the Kingdom reports in SAR. |
| **Timezone** | Selectable. This is the one that matters most, and the one most often left wrong. |
| **Date Format** | Selectable, e.g. `DD/MM/YYYY`. |

> [!WARNING]
>
> **Check the timezone before you trust a report**
>
> Timezone decides where a day starts, which decides which day an order counts in, which decides whether a [preparation SLA](https://docs.tryoto.com/modules/hubs-management/overview.md) was met.
>
> A person whose timezone is set to the wrong city sees the same data as everyone else and draws different conclusions from it — and nothing on screen indicates a mismatch. It is worth checking on every account at setup, particularly for staff who joined from another market.

## What reaches the customer

| | |
| - | - |
| **Messages** | SMS, email and WhatsApp content is authored per language, on its own tab. See [SMS](https://docs.tryoto.com/modules/customer-notification/sms.md), [Email](https://docs.tryoto.com/modules/customer-notification/email.md) and [WhatsApp](https://docs.tryoto.com/modules/customer-notification/whatsapp.md). |
| **Branded pages** | Tracking and return pages carry their own language tabs, so the page matches the message that led to it. See [Branded pages](https://docs.tryoto.com/modules/customer-notification/branded-pages.md). |
| **Order statuses** | Status descriptions are maintained in each supported language, so a tracking page reads naturally rather than showing an English status inside an Arabic page. |
| **Documents** | The [carrier pickup list](https://docs.tryoto.com/modules/shipping-management/shipping-and-tracking.md) carries a language selector, so the manifest a driver signs is in the language they read. |
