# OTO PACK mobile app for warehouse staff

> Use the OTO PACK app on iOS and Android to run warehouse tasks one scan at a time, and follow the work on the supervisor dashboard.

> [!NOTE]
>
> **Where to find it:** OTO PACK → Operations — [Open in OTO ↗](https://app.tryoto.com/operations)

The OTO PACK app is where warehouse work actually happens. Everything on the other three pages of this module is configured on a desktop and executed here, on a phone, one scan at a time.

## The app

Native for **iOS and Android**, and built for the way a warehouse actually uses a phone: one task per screen, large targets, and a scanner ready at every step.

### Nine actions, one per job

![The OTO PACK app menu](https://mintcdn.com/oto/ft-bRlLvOnJkbVoC/images/wms-1-app-menu.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=ft-bRlLvOnJkbVoC\&q=85\&s=e3a5151f0748a7d18172c80a84c38244)

Fig. 1 — The menu in the order the app presents it. The orange pins mark the actions this user has pinned to the top.

| Action | What it does |
| - | - |
| **Wave** | Take on a batch of picking work and walk it. Picking lives here — there is no separate Pick action. |
| **Pack** | Verify contents and box them. |
| **Ship** | Produce the label and hand over to the carrier or driver. |
| **Sort** | Split a multi-order pick into the individual orders. |
| **PUT** | Place received goods into bins — putaway and Easy Put. |
| **Count** | Cycle counts and audits. |
| **Return** | Take a returned parcel back in. |
| **Inbound** | Receive a delivery into the warehouse. |
| **Outbound** | Dispatch stock out — transfers, replenishment. |

### Pinning builds the bottom bar

The pins beside each action are not just a reordering. **Pinned actions become the tab bar at the bottom of every screen**, alongside a permanent camera button and the menu itself.

So a user who pins Wave, Pack and Ship gets exactly that bar — **WAVE · PACK · CAMERA · SHIP · MENU** — visible wherever they are in the app, and reaches their three jobs in one tap from anywhere.

> [!TIP]
>
> **Set this per role, not per person’s taste**
>
> A warehouse worker moves between screens hundreds of times a shift. Pinning turns the three actions they actually do into permanent tabs and pushes the other six behind the menu.
>
> It is worth deciding as part of onboarding rather than leaving to preference: a picker, a packer and a goods-in receiver want three different bars, and the right one makes the app feel built for their job.

The menu also carries **Profile Settings** and **Logout** at its foot. Which actions a given user sees depends on the edition — Basic, Advanced or OTO INVENTORY — and on their role.

## Scanning

The scanner opens as a sheet over whatever you are doing, and reads either identifier the item carries:

Fig. 2 — Scan SKU or Barcode — the scanner accepts either, so a warehouse-applied SKU label and a manufacturer’s barcode both work without the operator choosing a mode.

> [!TIP]
>
> **SKU or barcode, not one or the other**
>
> Most goods arrive with a manufacturer’s barcode; some get a warehouse label instead, and a few carry both. Accepting either means nobody has to know which kind of label is on the box before they scan it — and nothing has to be relabelled just to be scannable.

Either identifier can be read two ways:

| Method | When |
| - | - |
| **The phone’s camera** | Convenient, nothing extra to carry or charge. Fine for lower volumes. |
| **An external barcode scanner** | Faster, and the difference compounds over a few hundred scans a shift. The usual choice for a picking or packing station. |

**Manual entry** can be enabled in OTO PACK settings for the cases where scanning genuinely is not possible — a damaged label, a product that never had a barcode.

> [!WARNING]
>
> **Turn manual entry on deliberately**
>
> It is a useful escape hatch and a real hole in your verification — a typed SKU proves nothing was in anyone's hand. Enable it where the exception is real, and expect to see it used more than you intended.

## The dashboard

The supervisor’s counterpart to the app. It sits as the **OTO PACK** tab alongside the platform’s other dashboards, and it opens by asking which warehouse you want — every number on it is scoped to one building, because a warehouse manager is answerable for one floor, not an average across five.

Fig. 3 — Staff leaderboards, then inbound, then picking — each block with its own date range.

### Staff Performance Metrics

**Top Pickers** and **Top Packers**, side by side, each with its own measure and its own period. This is the number that tells a supervisor who is carrying the shift and who is stuck — and it is worth being deliberate about how it is used.

> [!TIP]
>
> **A leaderboard is a diagnostic before it is a ranking**
>
> Read from the top, it identifies who to learn from. Read from the bottom, it identifies who needs equipment, training or a different zone — a picker at the wrong end of the building will always be last, however hard they work. Used as a ranking alone, it rewards cherry-picking easy waves.

### INBOUND Statistics

| Measure | What it answers |
| - | - |
| **Total items in inbound areas** | How much is sitting on the dock, received but not yet shelved. The number that predicts tomorrow’s problem. |
| **Completed** and **Pending Inbound** | Receipts finished against receipts still open. |
| **Total quantity received** | Volume through the door. |
| **Total number of SKUs received** | Variety through the door. Volume and variety load a goods-in team very differently — a thousand units of one SKU is not the same shift as a thousand units of four hundred. |

### PICK Statistics

| Measure | What it answers |
| - | - |
| **Avg completion time for waves** | How long a wave takes once someone starts it. |
| **Avg waiting time to start picking** | How long it sat before anyone did. The gap between these two is where a backlog hides. |
| **Avg wave size** | Whether waves are being built at a useful size. |
| **Max** and **Min Completion Time** | The spread. A wide spread between the fastest and slowest wave usually means the waves themselves are uneven, not the pickers. |
| **Total Item Pending Quantity** | What is still waiting to be picked right now. |

> [!TIP]
>
> **Each block has its own date range**
>
> Inbound, picking and staff performance each carry their own period selector rather than sharing one at the top. That is what lets a supervisor hold today’s picking queue next to the month’s receiving pattern, which is usually the comparison that explains it.

See Analytics & Reporting for reporting that spans the operation rather than one warehouse.
