# POS integrations

> Connect your point-of-sale system to OTO so your stores can fulfill online orders with accurate stock, including restaurant and food POS systems.

A point-of-sale system runs the till. Connecting it to OTO is what turns a shop into somewhere orders can ship from.

## Why a shop is a harder case than a warehouse

A warehouse only moves stock because a system told it to. A shop sells over the counter, all day, without any order behind it — which means its stock figure changes for reasons OTO never sees unless the POS says so.

| Question | Why it is different in a shop |
| - | - |
| **What is in stock?** | The POS knows. Counter sales are invisible to fulfillment until they are reported. |
| **Can this be promised?** | Only if the figure is current. A number that is two hours old will oversell on a busy Saturday. |
| **Who picks it?** | Shop staff, between customers — not a picker with a handheld and a queue. |

> [!TIP]
>
> **Turn location-based inventory off for shops, deliberately**
>
> Bin-level tracking is right in a warehouse with scanners and a process. In a shop where staff sell from the shelf between customers, it is a discipline nobody will keep, and the detail it produces is wrong by Thursday.
>
> [Hubs Management](https://docs.tryoto.com/modules/hubs-management/overview.md) lets this be decided per hub: warehouses run full bin tracking, branches run one honest figure per SKU. A shop that reports one number correctly is more useful than a shop that reports bin detail badly.

## What connecting a POS gives you

| | |
| - | - |
| **Ship from store** | The branch becomes a fulfillment location, so [routing](https://docs.tryoto.com/modules/omnichannel-oms/order-routing.md) can choose it when it is closest or when it is the only place holding the item. |
| **Click and collect** | Buy online, collect in the shop — with the handover recorded. See [order fulfillment](https://docs.tryoto.com/modules/omnichannel-oms/order-fulfillment.md). |
| **Honest availability** | Shop stock published to the storefront, so a customer can see the item is two streets away. See [inventory sync](https://docs.tryoto.com/modules/inventory-management/inventory-sync.md). |
| **Returns to any shop** | A return received at a branch and put back into sellable stock there. See [returns receiving](https://docs.tryoto.com/modules/return-management/returns-receiving.md). |

## Restaurant and food POS

**Foodics** connects from the [channel catalog](https://docs.tryoto.com/integrations/sales-channels.md) directly, alongside **Jahez** and **Fooder**. Food orders behave differently from retail — short promises, branch fulfillment, and a delivery window measured in minutes — which is why they are worth configuring against branches with tight [preparation SLAs](https://docs.tryoto.com/modules/hubs-management/overview.md) rather than warehouse defaults.

## How POS integrations are delivered

Foodics is in the self-serve catalog. Other POS systems connect through the [REST API](https://docs.tryoto.com/developers/overview.md) — stock updates in, order and fulfillment events out.

That can be built by your team, by your POS vendor, or **by OTO against your endpoints**, as a connector developed for your account and your business rules. The same three routes described under [ERP systems](https://docs.tryoto.com/integrations/erp-systems.md) apply here, and a till system with no public API is exactly the case the third one exists for.

Note that creating **branch** pickup locations over the API is an Enterprise capability; warehouses are available on every plan. See [plan availability](https://docs.tryoto.com/developers/authentication.md).
