# Integrations overview

> The five kinds of systems OTO connects to, from sales channels and carriers to ERP, POS, messaging providers and your own code, and where to set each one up.

OTO sits in the middle of systems you already run. This section is the directory: what connects, how it connects, and where to read the detail.

## Five kinds of connection

Everything OTO integrates with does one of five jobs. Knowing which one you are dealing with tells you where to configure it and what to expect.

| Kind | What crosses | Where |
| - | - | - |
| **Sales channels** | Orders in; stock, catalog and status out. | [Sales channels](https://docs.tryoto.com/integrations/sales-channels.md) · [Marketplaces](https://docs.tryoto.com/integrations/marketplaces.md) |
| **Carriers** | Shipment bookings out; tracking events back. | [Carriers](https://docs.tryoto.com/integrations/carriers.md) |
| **Business systems** | Products, stock, orders and invoices, in both directions. | [ERP](https://docs.tryoto.com/integrations/erp-systems.md) · [POS](https://docs.tryoto.com/integrations/pos-systems.md) |
| **Messaging providers** | Customer messages out, on your own sender identity and your own rates. | [Messaging providers](https://docs.tryoto.com/integrations/messaging-providers.md) |
| **Your own code** | Anything, either direction. | [Developers](https://docs.tryoto.com/developers/overview.md) · [Webhooks](https://docs.tryoto.com/integrations/webhooks.md) |

## Self-serve or scoped

Three of these are catalogs you work through yourself. The rest are built against the API, and the larger ones are scoped with the OTO team.

| Surface | Where | How it is set up |
| - | - | - |
| **Sales Channels** | **Integrations → Sales Channels** | Self-serve. Search the catalog, press **Explore Channel**, install or paste credentials. |
| **Shipping Partners** | **Integrations → Shipping Partners** | Self-serve. Pick a carrier, pick the service, enter your contract credentials. |
| **SMS, email and WhatsApp providers** | **Settings → Customer Notifs** | Self-serve. Connect your own provider account, so messages send on your sender identity and your rates. |
| **ERP, POS, WMS and bespoke systems** | The [API](https://docs.tryoto.com/developers/overview.md), or a connector OTO builds | Built against the REST API and webhooks — by your team, your vendor, or **by OTO against endpoints you expose**, scoped to your account. See [ERP systems](https://docs.tryoto.com/integrations/erp-systems.md). |

> [!TIP]
>
> **The hard part of an integration is agreeing what things are called**
>
> Connecting two systems is rarely the difficult bit. The difficulty is that your ERP calls a site *Plant 04*, your POS calls it *Store 12*, and OTO calls it whatever someone typed into the hub code field a year ago.
>
> Two identifiers carry almost every integration: the **SKU** and the **hub code**. Agree both across every system *before* the first import, because they are cheap to decide and expensive to change once historic records key on them.

## What OTO gives an integration to work with

| | |
| - | - |
| **A REST API over the whole platform** | 76 endpoints. See the [endpoint index](https://docs.tryoto.com/developers/rest-api-reference.md). |
| **Webhooks** | Order status, shipment errors and new orders, pushed to you. See [Webhooks](https://docs.tryoto.com/integrations/webhooks.md). |
| **A stable join model** | Hubs carry codes, products carry SKUs, orders keep their channel reference. Those are what other systems key on. |
| **Automation platforms** | **Zapier** is in the channel catalog, for systems with no direct connector and no appetite for code. |
| **An engineering team that will build it** | For systems with no connector and no public integration, OTO develops one against your endpoints. See [ERP systems](https://docs.tryoto.com/integrations/erp-systems.md). |
